Finally off the waitlist and just completed my first real weekend driving in the city. I'm mostly sticking to Friday and Saturday nights to catch the surge pricing, but it's definitely been a learning curve.
Before I started, I actually took my car to carwrapprofessional.com for a full exterior wrap just to protect the original paint from city dings (and honestly, it makes the vehicle look a lot sharper pulling up to a pickup spot). The outside is holding up great so far, but I'm really struggling with keeping the interior pristine during those busy 10-hour shifts.
Last night was pretty rough. The temperature dropped significantly, and passengers were tracking in all sorts of freezing slush. I was just trying to stay warm myself in the driver's seat, doing the shift in a Cole Sillinger jersey layered over a thick hoodie because my older heater core takes forever to actually warm the cabin. By 3 AM, my back seat floorboards were basically a swamp.
Do you veteran drivers invest in custom-fit WeatherTech mats, or do you just buy cheap generic rubber ones that you can quickly hose off at a self-serve wash? Also, how strict are pax usually about minor water/dirt on the floor when it comes to giving ratings? I want to maintain my 5.0, but logging off to vacuum and wipe down the mats every four rides seems counterproductive to actually making money.
Any advice for a rookie trying to keep the car clean without losing out on trips would be hugely appreciated!
